Eureka Natural Foods’ Private Label!

In honor of Earth Day and Eureka Natural Foods celebrating its anniversary, the Wellness Department is featuring products from our private label. We carry a substantial selection of vitamins, supplements, and herbal blends from the manufacturers Reliance and Vitality Works. These two manufacturing companies have been a part of the Eureka Natural Foods family for several years and continue to live up to the standards we truly want from a well rounded natural products line.

Since 1978, Reliance has been a privately- owned supplement manufacturer that features over 50 trademarked and patented ingredients. Such ingredients include OptiMSM, Suntheanine, FloraGlo Lutein, and PureWay-C. These types of patented materials have been shown to have the greatest effect on the human body and continue to be leaders in the natural products industry. Reliance also carries several certifications of quality on all of their products, including independent party testing of finished products. Reliance also provides their most recent analysis reports on products from laboratory testing and provide full disclosure of all ingredients and where they are sourced.

As the current top private label manufacturer in the natural products industry, Reliance boasts a state of the art AND eco friendly manufacturing facility: “Our new facility represents energy efficiency on a very large scale. LEED compliant and featuring a sophisticated Energy Recovery System... Among other steps, we’re implementing a comprehensive energy efficiency and conservation program, utilizing a commercial recycling program, and using biodegradable packing materials.” You can read more about the great steps Reliance is taking in the natural products industry on their website.

Under our private label, Reliance manufactures many of our staple vitamins and minerals. Here are a few of our customer and employee favorites:

Quercetin 500 Plus is a great allergy remedy that includes a blend of Manganese, Bromelain, Turmeric and Citrus Bioflavonoids to aid in absorption and enhancing the benefits of Quercetin. Bromelain and Turmeric’s natural anti-inflammatory properties are also important when dealing with allergies, as this is another type of inflammation.

-Easy Iron is a patented form of ferrous bis-glycinate from Albion labs and contains Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 to enhance the benefits of Iron. Albion Labs patented ‘Easy Iron’ is non-constipating and offers nutrients for enhanced absorption.

-CoEnzyme-B B-50 complex As an already metabolically active form of the B vitamins, this B complex is set for immediate use by the body.

Vitality Works is a private label manufacturer that was originally founded in 1982 as a Holistic Health Center by clinical herbalist Mitch Coven. Today it continues to grow under the tutelage of its founder and is considered one of the most effective herbal formulation and single remedy manufacturers in the industry. Vitality Works obtains 75% of their raw herbal material in the United States and imported herbs are always independently tested for quality. They use full spectrum concentrates and provide herbs that are ethically wild harvested and support local growers though contract farms. Of the locally grown materials, Vitality Works also maintains Biodynamic organic farms (read more about Biodynamic below). At this Biodynamic Farm, they also employ a shaman plant tender, who minds the entire well-being of as many herbs as possible.

Vitality Works’ manufacturing facility is an FDA registered over- the -counter manufacturer and is certified organic. This translates to much stricter regulations when it comes to manufacturing all their herbs and an overall higher quality finished product. You can read all about their certifications here. Vitality Works uses glass as their packaging and bottling material, this allows for the herbs to last longer and at a higher quality. As a manufacturer, Vitality Works follows the highest of regulations when it comes to the quality of their products. “Vitality Works also operates in an environmentally sustainable way, recycling, composting, reducing energy and water consumption in a conscientious way.”

-Sinus Blaster As one of our best sellers for all your sinus health needs, Sinus Blaster features spices for easing congestion and herbs for immune and respiratory health. Horseradish, Cayenne, Garlic, and Onion jump start the blood moving in the body and the sinuses. Andrographis, Echinacea, Elderberry, and Olive leaf improve and activate our immune system. The tincture includes Oregon Grape Root, which is a liver detoxifier and blood cleanser. Yellow Dock improves liver and colon function and acts as a blood purifier and cleanser.

*Both the manufacturers that Eureka Natural Foods use for its Wellness products are loved by our staff and customers alike for their fantastic manufacturing practices, hypoallergenic ingredients, the ethically sourced and trademarked raw materials, the efficacy of their formulations in the body, and for the extra mile they go for third party laboratory testing of all finished products.

Just a bit of vocabulary for your Naturally Healthy Month…

In the Natural Health industry, we use a lot of terms to explain how products are made and how they work in the body. Today, we enjoy the luxury of having many options for all our supplement and nutritional needs. With all these amazing options though, we also find ourselves navigating all the new terms out there. So, we have a few new vocabulary words for everyone:

(Warning: Some of these are fairly well-known, but we wanted to cover all the bases.)

Non-GMO: “A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering or transgenic technology. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.

Genetic modification affects many of the products we consume on a daily basis. As the number of GMOs available for commercial use grows every year, the Non-GMO Project works diligently to provide the most accurate, up-to-date standards for non-GMO verification.” The Non-GMO Project website.

USDA Organic: “USDA certified organic foods are grown and processed according to federal guidelines addressing, among many factors, soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives. Organic producers rely on natural substances and physical, mechanical, or biologically based farming methods to the fullest extent possible.” Find more information on their guidelines here.

CCOF Organic: “CCOF advances organic agriculture for a healthy world. We accomplish our purpose through organic certification, education, advocacy, and promotion… Organic standards promote and enhance biodiversity, biological cycles, and soil fertility, and restore, maintain, and enhance ecological harmony. The legacy of organic will be the catalyzation of healthy, sustainable, and humane production systems. CCOF believes that organic standards should continually evolve to address a broadening range of issues…” Read More about the great work CCOF is doing here.

Certified B Corporation: “B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Today, there is a growing community of more than 2,100 Certified B Corps from 50 countries and over 130 industries working together toward 1 unifying goal: to redefine success in business. Individually, B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, and aspire to use the power of markets to solve social and environmental problems. Collectively, B Corps lead a growing global movement of people using business as a force for goodTM. Through the power of their collective voice, one day all companies will compete to be best for the worldTM, and society will enjoy a more shared and durable prosperity for all.” You can search for a company or learn more about individual Certified B Corporations here.

NSF: “As an independent global health and safety organization, NSF International tests and certifies products and writes standards for the food, water and consumer goods industries. Founded in 1944 as the National Sanitation Foundation, we changed our name to NSF International in 1990 as we expanded our services worldwide.” You can read more about their standards on their website.

GMP: “Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product.

GMP covers all aspects of production from the starting materials, premises, and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff. Detailed, written procedures are essential for each process that could affect the quality of the finished product. There must be systems to provide documented proof that correct procedures are consistently followed at each step in the manufacturing process - every time a product is made.” Their website also provides a number of educational resources.

Biodynamic: “Biodynamics is a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition. Biodynamics is rooted in the work of philosopher and scientist Dr. Rudolf Steiner, whose 1924 lectures to farmers opened a new way to integrate scientific understanding with a recognition of spirit in nature. Biodynamics has continued to develop and evolve since the 1920s through the collaboration of many farmers and researchers. Around the world, biodynamics is alive in thousands of thriving gardens, farms, vineyards, ranches, and orchards. The principles and practices of biodynamics can be applied anywhere food is grown, with thoughtful adaptation to scale, landscape, climate, and culture.” Find out more about how to garden and farm using these incredible principles on their website.
